History of road maintenance in Spain

ABSTRACT:

Road maintenance is a poorly known activity. It is not only a silent and discreet labour, but also a fundamental one for road safety and for the provision of the optimal conditions for efficient traffic. In the seventieth anniversary of the Spanish Road Association, this article reviews the history of an activity which has been closely connected to this association, especially from the eighties’ decade of XX century, when the proper maintenance of the Spanish road network started to be a social demand. Currently, road maintenance activities are in the hands of companies with high skilled professionals, operators specialized in road maintenance and management, supervised by the corresponding specialized managers.
