Main challenges for the sustainability of our road infrastructures

Julián Núñez Sánchez
Presidente de la Asociación de Empresas Constructoras y Concesionarias de Infraestructuras (SEOPAN)

ABSTRACT:

A vast majority of the public investment in our country has been earmarked for the road construction and preservation, which has positioned Spain in the third place of the world ranking of road connectivity; however, now we must face some difficulties arising from the worsening of the budgetary situation, which has been declining for the last few years. Therefore, it is necessary to rethink a sustainable funding model, concrete actions to diminish car accidents and a National Road Plan that allow us complete the high-capacity road network or prevent the accelerating aging of our infrastructures.
