ABSTRACT:

In the recent decades, a variety of intelligent transport systems have been developed to solve a wide range of vehicle and infrastructure safety problems adapting them to the growing needs of society on safety in the automotive, traffic and infrastructure fields. However, the digitization of the road as intelligent infrastructure and the corresponding intelligent vehicles that will make use of such infrastructure, are still two major challenges for infrastructure operators and vehicle manufacturers, due to the current cost of technology required for efficient deployment and ensuring complete safety. For this reason this work raises the topic of the safety of the road environment particularized in the second challenge: safe digital vehicles thanks to the understanding of the road environment through the use of computer vision.
