The Government of Aragon, through its General Directorates of Sustainability, and Mobility and Infrastructures, has developed a Guide to introduce environmental criteria into its road construction and maintenance projects. The drafting of the Guide, which has been financed with FEDER Funds, is framed in Aragon’s Climate Change and Clean Energies Strategy, and was commissioned to the consulting Ingeniería Viaria y Ambiental, S. L. (IN VIAM).

The Guide proposes a methodology, based on Life Cycle Assessment to compare the materials and the subgrade and pavement sections, provided by the Technical Recommendations for the dimensioning of pavement of Aragon’s autonomous network, besides a wide variety of rehabilitation solutions. It includes two computing tools that measure the effects of the main variables that must be selected during the drafting of the projects, in five different impact categories.
