ABSTRACT

The appearance of the first semi-autonomous cars has meant an important technological advance, although it is necessary that the infrastructures are compatible. Observations have been made in different curves, finding a correlation between its geometry and the maximum speed at which the autonomous system can operate. This is a new concept of speed: safe speed for automated driving, found to be lower than design, operation and regulatory speeds. A new concept of automated driving consistency is introduced that considers the differences between driver expectations and automated speed. To alleviate these inconsistencies, the level of service for automated driving is defined; which will be previously accredited for each section, to then inform the drivers. The automated speed will increase with the technology, being able to serve as a competitive challenge for the manufacturers and as a verifiable parameter by the regulators.
