ABSTRACT
Transition curves are employed in road projects so as to link tangents and circular curves or circular curves of different radius, being the clothoid the element that is used in the majority of countries. In Spain it is referred as the transition curve to be employed in the road geometric design rules. One of the concepts that is applied in order to determine its minimum length refers to the centrifuge acceleration variation limitation in the horizontal plane. The aim of this paper is to analyze the formulas that had been established by Spanish road geometric design regulations trough time and recommend the use of the equations that best define the concept.
