ABSTRACT

This article is based on the work undertaken in the safeRoute project which, funded by the INNPACTO sub-programme of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, seeks to develop a tool to improve road safety in professional road transport. This tool aims to provide information for drivers that will allow them to perform their professional tasks in a safer manner. To achieve this, it works on the three principal elements that contribute to the occurrence of an accident: the vehicle, the setting and the human factor.

This article focuses on the tasks undertaken in regard to setting, that is to say, the roadway. SIG tools have been used for generating risks maps that list the danger levels of the routes. This helps not only in interpreting the results but also facilitates the programming of safe route calculation. This article explains the methodology employed.
