New criteria for the design and classification of urban road

ABSTRACT

Traditionally, the design of urban road has been based on the ranking of the ways, depending on the amount and type of motor traffic that channel, and the association of some geometrical parameters (section, turning radius, ...) and speed each resulting types. This classification and design method are, today, clearly obsolete, compared to the varied demands of the urban environment and the need to reduce vehicular traffic in cities, whose negative impacts are well known.

This paper demonstrates this process, the new framework which should answer the road network is shown, exposed the insurmountable difficulties of adapting the traditional classification to the new framework and criteria for structure and design of urban roads are ahead with that they could be faced new and complex challenges of a more sustainable cities and mobility.
