ABSTRACT

In order to deepen the understanding of the methods of assessment landscape and its applicability to the landscape of the highways, in this work we have applied to the case of the landscapes can be seen from Spanish highways, two different methods designed to assess the quality of the landscape. The first is a mapping method that considers only the physical characteristics of the territory, while the second is based on the assessment of physical, aesthetic and psychological attributes (valuation method by photographs).

The study of the different attributes separately has allowed us to analyze the differences obtained in landscape assessment with both methods. The conclusion was that the differences were largely due to the presence of the attributes that can only be identified in the valuation method by photographs. The methods are therefore complementary, the mapping method is suitable for environmental studies of large territories, while valuation through photographs is more appropriate for more detail scales.
