ABSTRACT
In June 1986 in Spain Royal Legislative Decree 1302 / 86 which established the requirement for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) prior to executing an infrastructure form is published. From that time on new projects of highways and expressways must consider all environmental impacts. The article focuses on one of the most concerns, traffic noise.

After making a historical introduction on the consideration of road noise from the years 80 to this day, the text reviews the development of the Strategic Noise Maps (MER) and subsequent Action Plans with corrective measures. These measures include reducing noise devices, to which the text goes magazine, describing their geometric and constructional design, calculation methods, rules to be applied, service life, etc.

The article ends with an analysis of the current situation and future prospects in the fight against noise from roads, also citing QUIESST European project, focused on noise reduction in transport infrastructure.
