ABSTRACT:

This article presents the experiment with Variable Speed Limits (DSL) held in June in the B-2013 23 motorway access to Barcelona. The DSL system installed on this highway, as well as the high density of monitoring equipment available, made this an appropriate stage to establish a "higway lab", a laboratory-scale traffic. The aim of this experiment is to build a comprehensive database of traffic under different speed limits, allowing advance knowledge of this strategy of active traffic management. detailed measurements of vehicle count, speed, occupancy, lane changes and travel times were taken. All measurements from different teams have been grouped into a single database, available to the scientific community (I). The article describes the experiment and presents some preliminary results.
