Organization of public transport in European Metropolitan Areas

ABSTRACT
Although more than forty years ago the first Public Transport Authority (ATP) was created in Europe, in Paris, only 5 years ago the concern arises that the various European authorities they had a meeting space where to exchange experiences, concerns, problems , etc. It is in this spirit that is created in 1998 the EMTA Association of European Metropolitan Transport Authorities, under the leadership once again in Paris.
From this moment, EMTA about knowing the situation in Europe and, especially, its members, conducting a study on different aspects of ATP. This article contains the most important results of this study, conducted on ATP functions and organization of the major European cities.
