ABSTRACT
To meet international standards on a runway should require a number of features to the surface layer (coefficient of friction, surface texture). The pavement is calculated for a life of between 15 and 20 years, during which the surface characteristics are affected by stresses, climate, sunlight (aging), cleaning rubber. This forces acting on the rolling layers in shorter periods. Lately there have been two factors that have changed the actions taken so far: the development of new products and the increase in air traffic. This article addresses two solutions applied at Spanish airports, in order to be able to have a pattern to follow, depending on the characteristics of each airport, number of aircraft, type and characteristics of them, traffic type (seasonal or continuous) materials in the area (aggregates, binders), insularity.
