ABSTRACT
Today's society presents the continuing emergence of new technologies that are applicable to all areas of life, and in particular, traffic safety and road traffic. However, not all of them (despite publicity about it) really represent an advance in road safety, and some of these, used improperly, can be a true road safety hazard. Therefore, it is necessary to distinguish between those new technologies whose primary objective is to improve road safety (installed on the vehicle devices, installed infrastructure and vehicle-infrastructure cooperative systems) and those pursuing other purpose but may have an impact (positive or negative) for road safety. In this article the most widely used technologies in both groups are described, making a brief survey of its use and impact on road safety.
