The article discusses the behavior of compacted soils particular regard to their volumetric behavior against humidity changes. the results of various test programs intended to provide essential information about the effect of compaction variables on the volumetric stability of compacted soils are initially described. It is entered after an elastoplastic constitutive model that allows for a consistent conceptual framework the classical concepts of compaction. They have been related constants and parameters of model state with compaction variables used in practice.

Embankment, soil, moisture, behavior model, compaction, prediction model, suction.
