ABSTRACT
To solve the congestion problems generated by the rapid social and economic development in South Africa, at the end of 1999, the National Roads Agency of South Africa ( "South African National Roads Agency" SANRA) awarded to BPCC consortium ( "Bakwena Platinum Corridor Consortium ") led by Dragados the concession for the construction, operation and maintenance of part of the N4 road linking Pretoria with Skilpadshek, on the border with Botswana, as well as a section of the NI between Pretoria and Warmbaths, north of country. The work, completed in 2004, have mainly consisted of the expansion and rehabilitation of 290 km of motorways and existing roads and the construction of 90 km of new roads. Among other embodiments of interest include the treatment of swelling clays detected in the areas traversed, and the definition of the various units stated under South African methodology.
