ABSTRACT
In May 2003, the Ministry of Development of Spain approved the construction of an overpass over the Cantabrian motorway in the region of Asturias, made of polymeric materials. The top step of 46 m in length, should be put into operation in April 2004, which meant that the structure would have to be designed and built in less than a year. The bridge was designed and built by the R + D + i NECSO Entrecanales Cubiertas. This structure will serve as a reference for future works in Spain, considering that the composite materials are integrated gradually into the construction of bridges and other civil engineering works.
