ABSTRACT
At the end of this decade Europe will be made available to the international community a new satellite navigation system. Unlike the American GPS system, the European system, known as Galileo, will be under civilian control and allow its users a service guarantee. This article introduces the main characteristics of Galileo, its key differences from the GPS and tries to anticipate developments imply for the world of road transport.
