ABSTRACT
In the first part, the article makes a summary of the current state of knowledge on the accident-bond relationship, and cites some studies. The second part deals with the "potential adhesion" which is a determining factor in the number and severity of accidents in some situations and conditions of wet pavement. The text presents a summary of current knowledge regarding the "real" potential users in relation to the characteristics of the surface layer. some rules are proposed below, in the most delicate situations, to adapt the adhesion potential depending on the conditions of solicitation. Finally, the third part presents the means used to "manage" the road in terms of adherence assessment and addresses the main question: what level of adherence should require each infrastructure? the values ​​required in England, New Zealand and Germany are provided.
