ABSTRACT
Bituminous emulsions must be characterized in order to predict their behavior once put into service. To verify the quality of road pavement, however, study another aspect is crucial: the binder used to make the emulsion, as is found once occurred breakage of the emulsion. There are different techniques for recovering this binder. Some of these methods manage to restore the binder as it was before commissioning the bitumen emulsion. Other methods, however, produce a hardening of the binder to varying degrees depending on the method considered, in order to simulate the evolution or aging that will occur once put into service in the medium or long term.
The article summarizes a study in the Scientific and Technical Campus (CST) on Colas, to compare different recovery methods and their influence on the characteristics of the recovered binders. The work includes the study of emulsions of all kinds, although article assessing the impact of these methods in the case of bitumen emulsions fluxados (a) is presented.
