ABSTRACT
The automotive industry has spent decades conducting trials to improve the safety of vehicles on impact. It is much more recent design parapets of bridges by testing to ensure they are sufficiently resistant to heavy and light vehicles for flexible so that the damage is limited to the occupants. The designers of structures usually handle mathematical models that have proven useful to predict the structural behavior. However, in the case of design parapets still not enough is known about their behavior. Today the only possible and valid method is the design by testing. They are discussed in this article some conclusions obtained from tests performed for validation of a metal guardrail according to the UNE-EN 1317.
