ABSTRACT
This article analyzes and updates the new environmental conditions imposed by the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol in highway engineering.

Engineering sustainable road involves considering emissions Greenhouse involving the construction and subsequent operation of the road from the views of the building itself, the materials used and users by driving through them, once put into service.

The Kyoto Protocol introduced new variables in the environmental analysis of any human activity that is not yet adequately considered in highway engineering. In this article the author has focused on what appear to be more important, but not limited to: the reuse of materials and hot mix asphalt. In addition, the strategies to combat climate change are analyzed.

Keywords:
Sustainable engineering, Transport, road transport, reuse of materials, Kyoto Protocol, Bituminous mixture, Greenhouse Gas GHG Climate Change.
