ABSTRACT
This article describes the fundamental aspects of the life and work of Santo Domingo de la Calzada, pioneer and innovator in the exercise of charity through his builder profession, town planner, manager and healer bodies and spirits are presented. He was born and died the year 1019 1109. lay Christian, he did not receive the priestly order. He dedicated his life to serve the pilgrims Compostela in the exercise of their profession master builder. To pave the way and make safer his journey built a roadway that the Jacobean Route shortened to his step for La Rioja and made safer his crossing; He lifted a bridge over the river Oja, to help wade through one of the most unpredictable of the Camino channels; He built a hospital for the care and devotion of poor and sick pilgrims. We trace the outlines of the activity of a master builder, nurse, manager and server, pioneer of the humanity and humanization of big public works.
