ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to demonstrate the interaction of certain perceptual variables in the traffic sign recognition, such as the symbol, shape, size and color of the prohibition signs and warning. The results showed an interaction between the factors target symbol x symbol size of the vertical signals for reaction times. And an interaction between the factors symbol size x color of the vertical signals for the proportion of correct answers given by the subjects.

Therefore, to make quick and correct recognition of the vertical signals is better to present symbols as large as possible as well, the use of perceptual strategies holistic is favored, speeding up the time required subjects in their recognition and subsequent decision .
