The FAEC has awarded its VIII International Prize for Innovation in Roads Juan Antonio Fernández del Campo

The work that has been recognized by the Jury is a Valencian investigation that develops a system capable of predicting how the state of urban pavements will evolve in the future

In an atypical ceremony compared to other editions, although common and repeated in recent months, the Foundation of the Spanish Road Association (FAEC) has delivered its "VIII Juan Antonio Fernández del Campo International Prize for Innovation in Roads" .

The event, partly in person and partly online, was chaired by Juan Francisco Lazcano, President of the Foundation. Together with him, Jacobo Díaz, Secretary of this entity and of the Jury, has been in charge of reading the ruling.

In this eighth edition, the award went to the project "Comprehensive system for efficient maintenance of urban pavements (SIMEPU)", authored by a multidisciplinary team of professionals from the university world and the company represented by Eugenio Pellicer and Roberto Paredes, both belonging to the Polytechnic University of Valencia, and Jesús Felipo and Juan Sánchez-Robles, from the companies Pavasal Empresa Constructora and CPS Infraestructuras Movilidad y Medio Ambiente, respectively.

All of them were also present at the event, as well as Jorge Sacristán, Commercial Director of Banco Caminos, who together with Lazcano presented the award to the winners.

The Jury has also awarded a second prize to the work "Study of asphalt risks of bond between asphalt layers for rehabilitation of milled flexible pavements", whose author is the Argentine researcher José Julián Rivera.

Rivera has addressed the participants in the event from his native country via the Internet, although he has been represented in the room by the Secretary of the Argentine Embassy in Spain, Mª Agustina Meda, who has been in charge of collecting the award .

The rest of the guests and participants have attended electronically through the virtual room of the AEC. Among them, the President of the Jury of this eighth edition of the Prize, Félix Edmundo Pérez, who in his speech highlighted the important contributions of the study to the conservation of pavements, detailing some of its keys.

The Juan Antonio Fernández del Campo International Prize for Innovation in Roads is endowed with an amount of 12.000 euros for the winning research and its authors, in addition, are rewarded with the publication of the document in a special edition of the FAEC collection.
