With this appointment the process of constituting the Executive Committee of the entity starts, giving way to a new stage in the development and application of new telematics technologies (computers, electronics and communication) for the optimization of the various modes of transport in our country.

ITS Spain has one goal: to contribute to the development of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS, according to the English terminology) at the national level to become a forum for exchange of ideas from all sectors within the field of new transport technologies from governments and users to equipment manufacturers and professional associations. But the work of ITS Spain will not stay there, since the debates that will be developed in scientific terms also serve to promote initiatives that enable technical standardization of all proposals emanating from the association.

One of the hallmarks of ITS Spain-whose promoters are the Traffic Department of the Ministry of Interior, the General Directorate of Roads of the Ministry of Development, the Spanish Road Association (AEC), the Technical Road Association (ATC ) and Traffic Business Employers (PEMTRA) Association, with support from the Ministry of Science and Technology-is its integrationist, making room in her womb few entities, public or private, operating in each of the sectors involved in the generalization of Intelligent Transport Systems in our country.

With this overview, the new association has a range that allows it to offer interesting possibilities to a wide range of organisms, from operators and suppliers of the telecommunications industry to professional associations and user-centric transport, through legal advisory firms and universities and research centers. It is, therefore, open the door to a large number of professionals believe that new technologies will lead the way in transport policy and traffic management in the coming years.

Active presence in the working groups

In a first phase, participation in working groups on Intelligent Transport Systems it will be vital for ITS born Spain. In this area, counseling and technical assistance of the Spanish Road Association and the Technical Association of Roads will be critical, as long as both institutions have extensive experience in this field.

Thus, once this first phase of rapprochement of positions and formulating priorities in a second stage ITS Spain and its partners will be able to establish a more comprehensive action plan, which responds to your goals.

ITS SPAIN, IN THE VANGUARD OF A POWERFUL SECTOR

The origins of ITS Spain is located in the San Isidro Corridor Project, which later resulted in the so-called Forum ATIS. Both initiatives are based on the increased profitability that telematics prints to decision-making processes in the field of transport, in addition to improving these technologies provide indicators of service quality. In road field and although ITS Spain has a multimodal dimension, telematics is a tool that can yield significant results to improve road safety, while also helps to reduce the effect of infrastructure on the environment, especially as regards to traffic congestion.

In recent years, the three major industrial powers-Japan, Europe and the United States are betting on investments in research and implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (electronic toll and automatic fare collection, driving aids, regulation and management urban traffic, user support, commercial fleet management, public transport management ...).

In Europe and the impetus which is the Galileo program, the future of the transport market passes by Intelligent Systems and Advanced Systems Traveler Information, which allow more efficient management of available information, changing traffic conditions. Hence the importance of ITS Spain assumed for the national field of new transport technologies, a field with very good future prospects in which Spain has much to say to the world.
