It is a non-profit association that aims to promote the implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems in our country

The initiative has the support of the sector

Madrid, 31 May 2002 10,00.- At this morning at the offices of the College of Civil Engineering, Channels and Ports in Madrid, has become the first Spanish association dedicated to promoting the use of telematics ( computer, electronics and communication) for the optimization of the various modes of transport.

The new facility represents the culmination of years of work and effort for much of the transport sector: Ministry of Science and Technology, Traffic Department of the Ministry of Interior, Directorate General of Highways Ministry of Development, Regional Transport Consortium Madrid , Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, Concessionaires Association of Spanish companies Highways, Tunnels, Bridges and Toll Road, Traffic Business Employers and numerous private companies.

Led by the Spanish Road Association and the Technical Association of Roads, ITS Spain aims to contribute to the progress of technology Intelligent Transportation Systems (Intelligent Transport Systems) in our country through the definition and development of policies that allow its implementation ; assist in the training of users of all modes of transport-and the general public that the use of these new technologies is made in the best conditions of efficacy and safety, and promote the development of legal regulations governing this matter.

BACKGROUND

The origins of ITS Spain are located in the San Isidro Corridor Project, which later resulted in the so-called Forum ATIS. Both initiatives are based on the most profitable and lowest cost telematics prints to decision-making processes, in addition to improving these technologies provide indicators of service quality. In the road area and although ITS Spain has a multimodal dimension, telematics is a tool that can give interesting for safer results, while also helps to reduce the effect of infrastructure on the environment, particularly as regards traffic congestion.

In recent years, the three major industrial powers-Japan, Europe and the United States are clearly betting on investments in research and implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (electronic toll and automatic fare collection, driving aids, regulation and urban traffic management, user support, commercial fleet management, public transport management ...).

In Europe, following the recent impetus to Galileo Programme, the future of the transport market goes unequivocally Intelligent Transportation Systems and Advanced Systems Traveler Information, which allow more efficient management of available information, changing conditions traffic.
