Objectives and lines of action

Logo of the Spanish Road Association (AEC)The Spanish Highway Association (AEC), a non-profit organization founded in 1949, has worked since its inception to defend and promote highways. Its primary objective has been and continues to be to achieve a safer, more sustainable, higher quality, more intelligent and technological road network.

In 1998, the AEC was declared a Public Utility Entity, a condition that further underlines its character of service to society.

Throughout its existence, the Association has tried to adapt its activities to the social and economic changes that have been taking place at all times. Thus, at present, its actions are focused on the fields of digitization, connectivity, electrification, sustainability, decarbonization, road safety, urban mobility and infrastructure service quality.

In relation to these areas of work, the AEC carries out numerous activities of a technical nature and training or public awareness: studies and research, congresses, seminars, training courses, publishing publications, information campaigns, exchange of information and documentation with similar institutions. all over the world etc 

All this in collaboration with different public administration bodies, companies and other federations and associations of various kinds.

In his defense of the road, the activity of SRA has transcended from its origins on purely domestic, and acquired full development institutions and participating in international decision-making bodies competent in the road sector.

Not in vain, since 1950, the Spanish Road Association is the Spanish member of the International Road Federation - IRF, as well as being one of the founding members of the European Road Federation - erf).

It is also a founding member of the Ibero-American Road Institute (IVIA), which brings together technology and research centers from the countries of Central and South America, and collaborates with other international institutions such as the European Commission, the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) or the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). 

In 2005, SRA received the highest internationally award granted by the IRF. Its about "Global Road Achievement Award”, which the Spanish Road Association deserved in its “Advocacy and Lobbying” category. This award recognizes its prestige throughout the world and the value of its activities inside and outside our borders.
