The 30ª Road Week addresses the six major challenges of the road sector

Redefining the management and conservation model of the network, reducing accident rates, solving exploitation problems, responding to the pending technological challenge, ensuring efficient and sustainable mobility and tuning in with the concerns of citizens are the six major challenges to the that the world of the road has to respond in the short and medium term. Challenges to be faced with innovative solutions, some in the formulation phase, others already implemented and many, still, to be imagined.

With this initial approach, the Spanish Road Association, in its capacity as organizing entity, assisted by the General Rapporteur, the Director of the Galician Agency of Infrastructures, Francisco Menéndez, intends to articulate the technical program of the thirtieth edition of the Week of the Road, one of the most prestigious congresses of all those held in Spain on road infrastructures.

The Congress will take place in autumn, 29 days to 31 in October, in the city of Santiago de Compostela, promoted by the Xunta de Galicia, and organized with the collaboration of the Technical Association of Highways (ATC) and the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Asphalt Mixtures (ASEFMA).

Eight discussion tables

The Technical Program is divided into eight round tables in which issues of the highest political, economic and social relevance will be addressed. Issues that go from the scenario after the reversion of motorway concessions to the State or payment for use according to the "polluter and who uses, pay" principle, going through the essential consideration of the associated territorial structuring criteria, above all , to the networks managed by provincial and municipal administrations, without forgetting the concept of "Safe System" for the definition of strategies to reduce accidents or innovations in layout, such as 2 + 1 roads, until reaching the current state study of road conservation, its financing and the situation in other European countries in this regard.

The analysis of the life cycle, emission control and the most promising technologies in this field will also have a prominent place in the work sessions of the 30 Road Week, in addition to the communication strategies to be implemented in the sector to connect with citizens and respond to their demands and interests.

Road Week emerged on the technical stage at 1962. After a break of six years, 2017 reappears thanks to the support of the Junta de Andalucía, celebrating its twenty-ninth edition in the cities of Úbeda and Baeza. This 2019, the Week, with 57 years and 30 editions behind it, calls for reflection on the future of roads in a complex environment and with numerous challenges, six of them protagonists of the debate.
