Medals of Honor Highway
In their daily work to achieve optimum road infrastructure, the Spanish Road Association does not forget that it is the hand of man that makes possible the very existence of these works of engineering, from conception to commissioning.
Promoting roads means, therefore, clearly supporting the people who work in them and for them. From this evidence were born in 1966 the Medals of Honor of the Road, some awards whose only intention is to grant a public recognition to all men and women who, on foot of work or from their offices and offices, struggle every day for safe routes And quality.
From that, now distant, 1966 many have been the winners. People who have managed to demonstrate their technical ability and enthusiasm at work: road workers, doctors, Red Cross members, policemen, senior administration officials, business executives ...
They have taken over voluntarily and altruistically, the legend printed on the back of the Medals: "Better roads for a better world".
In 1995, the Spanish Road Association institutionalized Merit Medal International, with which aims to highlight the work of other personalities road working world outside our borders.
A year earlier, in 1994, the Silver Road Medal disappeared, which had been awarded since 1967 without subjection to a pre-established regularity and which was recovered almost two decades later, in 2012, giving it a specific character, while how much it becomes an award that is granted to institutions and organizations of relevance in the social, economic, communicational and even political spheres of our country.
In 2022, the Executive Committee of the Spanish Road Association decides to abolish the Silver Medal and institute three Gold categories: Institutional Merit, Personal Merit and International Merit.
